Tough spot, isn't it?

Under the crisp blue morning sky of Perth, a haul truck lay crumpled like a child’s discarded toy at the base of the quarry. High above, perched on the edge of the cliff, Sophia, an ethereal figure bathed in celestial light, watched the earthbound tragedy unfold.

Wearing her customary blue suit and radiating an energetic aura, she descended gracefully towards the wreckage. Amidst the mangled metal and debris, lay the driver, an experienced man who had spent his last seven months working at Hanson’s Red Hill quarry. His body was bruised and broken, and the dimming light in his eyes betrayed the closeness of his final moments.

“Tough spot, isn't it?” Sophia mused, appearing suddenly beside him. Her words were softened by a gentle Australian accent. "Don't worry, I'm here now."

The driver’s eyes widened at the sight of the apparition, but a warm calm washed over him. “Who… are you?” he whispered, gasping for breath.

"Name's Sophia," she replied, her radiant smile filling the dark space around them. "I'm kind of an... angelic travel guide, you might say."

Though in pain, the driver chuckled at her unusual description. "An angel who cracks jokes... now I've seen everything."

Sophia winked, her presence filling the wreck with a soothing light. "Ready for a journey, mate?"

His laughter subsided into a grimace of pain. He clenched his eyes shut, but managed a nod.

From a distance, emergency services rushed towards the disaster, but Sophia knew they wouldn’t make it in time. She reached out, her fingers making contact with the driver's forehead. The scene around them started to dissolve, replaced by an infinite, serene meadow shimmering under the Elysium light.

"The pain's gone," he murmured, looking down at his unscathed body.

Sophia nodded, "This is Elysium. Peaceful, ain't it?"

“But…” he stammered, “I don’t deserve this. I'm just a truck driver.”

Sophia shook her head, her voice firm, "Your job doesn't define your worth. You've spent your life working hard, providing for your family. That is more than enough."

He smiled weakly, his eyes glistening with unshed tears. "I'm scared."

"Don't be," Sophia said, her eyes soft but determined. "I'll guide you through this."

Suddenly, a snarl echoed across the peaceful meadow, cutting through the tranquil ambiance. A figure emerged from the shadows, its eyes burning with an insidious fire. A demon, summoned by the driver's lingering fear.

Seeing the beast, the driver's body stiffened, but before he could react, Sophia stepped forward. She moved with a dancer's grace, her fists clenched and stance grounded. Her charismatic smile morphed into a determined scowl.

With a swift motion, she clashed with the demon. Every blow landed with practiced precision, every dodge was timed to the second. The beast fought back viciously, but Sophia, empowered by her mission, fought harder. In a final strike, she landed a punch on the demon, sending it hurtling into the ether.

Panting lightly, she dusted off her suit and turned back to the man, her infectious smile back in place. "Guess I forgot to mention the martial arts part of my job."

The driver stared at her, a mix of awe and relief on his face. His fear was gone, replaced with acceptance. "Thank you, Sophia," he said, his voice strong and steady.

Sophia offered a reassuring nod, holding out her hand. "Ready to explore?"

Undersea, Angel investigates missing sub

In Elysium, Elijah Hael, an angel once a human, folded his wings, scanning the recent data streaming in. His eyes were glistening emeralds that stared into the pool of ethereal light. It was not a light that could be seen by mere mortals but a gateway of understanding, the ebb and flow of human life, an echo of experiences, emotions, hopes, and despair from the world below. The current situation called for him; five souls, trapped under the sea in a sunken submarine, their hopes dwindling along with their oxygen supply.

Elijah understood human frailty, having been one himself. Now as an angel, he had the responsibility of offering help, a spectral guiding hand in times of need. Elijah stretched out his hand, allowing it to merge with the ethereal light, connecting him to the tangible world.

Down on Earth, in the depth of the cold and unforgiving Atlantic, the stranded passengers were grappling with their rapidly dwindling time. Hamish Harding, an adventurer at heart, clung to the hope that their rescuers would reach them soon. He had been through some extreme experiences, but none as threatening as this.

Paul-Henry Nargeolet, a seasoned submarine pilot, tried to keep calm, maintaining the procedures he knew so well. Stockton Rush, CEO of the company that owned the submarine, couldn't help but blame himself.

As the oxygen level continued to dip, the shared fear in their hearts was overwhelming. Suddenly, a calmness descended. Their panicked breaths began to slow, their hearts steadying. It was a feeling of warmth, the reassurance of a protective hand guiding them through their fear, restoring their courage.

Back in Elysium, Elijah's essence was intertwined with the fear and hope in the submarine. He worked his celestial influence subtly, fostering hope, reminding them of their strength, their families, their past triumphs. He knew he couldn't intervene directly, but he could lend his strength, offer solace and instill hope, the most potent of human forces.

On the surface, rescue teams continued their desperate search, driven by an inexplicable feeling of urgency, a strange nudge they couldn't quite place. Their efforts were doubled, an extra dose of determination surging through them.

The deep-sea robot Victor 6000 dove into the unfathomable depths. Guided by some invisible force, it moved swiftly, reaching the last known location of the Titan. Its cameras picked up a sight that caused a cheer to go up from the control room: the lost vessel, intact.

Elijah withdrew from the ethereal light. The serenity in the submarine held. Now the humans would do what they did best: survive against the odds. Above and below, the web of hope was still spun tightly around them, the human spirit unbowed, testament to their incredible resilience. His job was done, at least for now. Until the next calling echoed through the gates of Elysium, Elijah Hael would stand watch, the human-turned-angel, ever ready to support those in need.

Excellent Follow-up. Romance adventure and science fiction all in one

"Let me start by saying I loved this book (Elijah Hael - The Genetic Code). It had a nice steady pace that kept you wanting more. The interaction between the 3 main characters; Elijah, Castiel, and Sophia is believable. This book is the second book in the Elijah Hael series however, you do not need to have read the first book to get this story it is completely stand alone. This book was very emotional and I did find myself crying so be prepared for that. Character development was spot on pacing was excellent and the story was engaging and immersive. I just wish that it had ended that is really my only complaint I love falling into Elijah Hael’s universe. Again I can not state how much I truly enjoyed this book!!!"

Recommendation: Genuinely good writing and story telling seekers will find what they are looking for with this book. Fans of the Elijah Hael series will love this installment.

The Musings Of A Book Addict

"The characters in the story (Elijah Hael - The Genetic Code) are very real, very believable. We have your good versus evil. Humans are unaware that a battle between demons and angels are taking place around them. Humans are the pawns caught in the middle.  Nya is sick.  She has been working on a DNA project for over a decade and now someone else is trying to steal it.  I thought it great naming this person Cain.  You immediately get the idea that he is working for the wrong side.  He is actually trying to he a group of demons called "The Shadows".

The angels, Elijah, Castiel and Sophia have been tasked with protecting Nya and her boyfriend Isaac.

This is not your typical angel versus demon book.  This is not the first book in the series, yet I was able to get right in and enjoy it.  I will definitely need to read the first book to see what I had missed."

"the fluidity of this story was awesome"

"I am so glad that I had the chance to read this story (Elijah Hael - The Genetic Code). It was great!! Mr. Goodwin's writing style was wonderful. His descriptions of each character were very detailed and the way he writes his characters thoughts are realistic. I really enjoyed his writing style, it was easy to follow, descriptive, his transitions were smooth; overall, the fluidity of this story was awesome. I haven't read a book with great writing in a while and it was so re...freshing for my eyes and brain.

This story will definitely keep a reader wanting more. There were lots of suspenseful and action packed events that kept the story interesting and intriguing. I loved that Mr. Goodwin had very descriptive information on the advanced technology. It wasn't too in depth where a reader couldn't understand it in the story. I enjoyed the intricacies with the combined technology and biology, it was a very unique idea.
I enjoyed all the characters in this book. Mr. Goodwin really brings each character's personality out. They were realistic and relatable. He was thorough with most of the characters in describing each characters thoughts and why they had these thoughts. He described each characters physical traits, their non verbal communication methods and their physical movements very well. The characters were very different from one another and they were all likable, even the villains.

Overall, I would highly recommend this story for anyone that wants to read a thrilling, thought provoking action adventure with a touch of romance.

I haven't read the first book but I will definitely be picking it up since I want to get to know Elijah more. Out of all the characters, I thought Elijah was lacking a little but I think that was probably due to the fact that he had his own book. Mr. Goodwin hints at that in this book."

The Genetic Cody by Steve Goodwin, is the second book in the Elijah Hael series, but can be read an a standalone book. I suggest this book for young adults and adults.

There are two sets of main characters in this story. The humans are Nya and her boyfriend Isaac. Nya has just finished a decade long project to decode “Junk” DNA. Before she even has time to celebrate, a man named Cain is trying to steel it.

The other set is the angels Elijah, Sophia and Castiel. They are trying to protect Nya and Isaac from Cain. Cain wants to use it to help “The Shadows”. The shadows are sort of like a demon.

To make things worse, Nya is sick and has avoided her illness for years. But now it is catching up with her. Will she stay safe from Cain? Can she still have a life with Isaac before the illness takes her.

If you like sci-fi with some heartache, then I suggest this book. It takes a new look at God, Creation and Evolution.

Once you open to the first page, it will grab you tightly, hold you down tightly and you'll watch those pages turn and turn and turn some more until you get to the last page. You will find it hard to put down until you finish reading it. Make sure you have your seatbelt on as you travel through this tale of love and danger. As you read you will be drawn in and feel as though you are a part of the story. This book gives you a good look on Christian living and a new and different interpretation of angels. I highly recommend this book to everyone. I look for more from Steve Goodwin."
