Little Angels
When God calls little children
to dwell with him above,
We mortals sometime question
the wisdom of his love.
For no heartache compares
with the death of one small child.
Who does so much to make our world
seem wonderful and mild..
Perhaps God tires of calling
the aged to his fold,
So he picks a rosebud
before it can grow old.
God knows how much we need them,
and so he takes but few,
To make the land of heaven
more beautiful to view.
Believing this is difficult,
still somehow we must try.
The saddest word mankind knows
will always be “Good-bye”.
So when a child departs,
we who are left behind must realize
God loves children…
Angels are hard to find.

Job's done
Steve posted over on his blog, "Job's done. "The Angelic Gene" has been sent out for final proofing. Now onto thinking up a plot for the next novel."
The third novel based around the Elijah Hael series.

Introduction
“Well, you introduced me to Jesus. I remember you taking me by the hand and leading me to Jesus hanging on that huge crucifix in the church,” Anne said, staring into open space as if reimaging the scene. “You started praying for me. For Jesus to come into to my life, to heal my hurt. I listened, and figured to myself, hey if this Jesus man can take away my pain, my loneliness, why not let him come into my life?” Anne gazed directly into Sophia’s watchful eyes. “Then the strangest thing happened. A warmness engulfed me. The feeling I use to have when my mother would cradle me or when my father would kiss me on the cheek goodnight. I felt safe.” She took a moment to collect her thoughts. “I felt secure and no longer alone.”
“Of course you didn’t feel alone silly. You had me!” Sophia replied.
Anne gently slapped the side of Sophia’s leg as she chuckled. “You know what I mean Sophia.”

Review - Elijah Hael - The Genetic Code
Steve definitely captures his audience in this creative story of chased heroes and provocative pursuers. The adventure is worth the ride, as he unfolds a pleasingly techy tale of love and danger. You will be entertained and also drawn into this journey with each page.
Steve is an accomplished author with good writing skills. He develops the reality of the story's characters in a meaningful way. You may even find yourself wanting to help them in their quests. Steve's phrasing and paragraph structure does not inhibit the reader from easy reading - making it a pleasure to quickly advance to the next phase of each event. I recommend this book for anyone who likes edgy adventures.

very thought provoking and well worth a read
"I must start by saying I am not a fan of books unless I am studying a topic. However .... Once I started reading this book I could not put it down. Very much enjoyed the story and the portrayal of the different characters. As much as it is a Christian book it is a great read and is very thought provoking and well worth a read. Bring on the next book Mr Goodwin."

If Only I Had Wings
I reached out for the moon and saw a failing star;
just a passing angel, for that is what you are.
If only I had an angel's wings then I could fly away with you;
and we could share our dreams and make them all come true.
Yes we could share our dreams and make them all come true.
We could chase the rainbow each time that heaven cried;
rain drops fall like our tears for love has never died.
Dancing on the clouds we'd waltz across the heavenly blue;
smiles lighting up my eyes I whisper I love you.
Yes now my smiling eyes are saying I love you.
When reaching for the moon I'll that that falling star;
I will see my angel, for that is what you are.
If only I had angel's wings then I could flyaway with you;
and we could share our dreams and make them all come true.
Yes we could share our dreams and make them all come true.
And I would fly to where you are; If only I had wings like you.
I would chase that falling star, across the skies of blue.
O I would dance beyond the clouds, and I would reach out in my dream,
Then fly to where you are. Then fly to where you are.

An engaging but unique take on spiritual warfare and the afterlife.
An extremely rich and insightful review of Elijah Hael & The Last Judgement posted earlier today by Peter Younghusband.
"I discovered Steve Goodwin's books advertised on Facebook. I was immediately drawn to them after reading the plot and also because he is an Australian Christian author. In my Christian fiction library, I do not have many Australian Christian authors, so to find another who writes in the genre I follow is worthy of my support.
Elijah Hael and the Last Judgement is the first in a series of novels. This one concerns the death of Elijah from a bicycle accident. He finds himself in a strange place being interrogated over incidents in his past. Confused, he does not understand why this is happening. Another man, Castiel, interrupts this interrogation and takes him away where he is shown significant aspects of his life where Castiel and Elijah comment on these events. We see how these events, both good and bad, have impacted Elijah and made him the man he is. All these events range from childhood through to his death.
Elijah begins to understand that he is in the afterlife and Castiel is an angel. Through these observances of Elijah's life, clues are laid as to why this is happening leading to a decision Elijah has to make.
This comprises the first half of the novel. It is very absorbing. I could not put this half down. Goodwin seamlessly blends in various topics of dysfunctional family life, sexual promiscuity, (nothing graphic or descriptive), abortion, physical abuse, divorce, drug and alcohol abuse, prostitution, that Elijah was an observer to with his family. Goodwin writes this without it being a hard read and successfully portrays Elijah's feelings and how he coped. Throughout this half, he also blends in the spiritual aspects of sin, the interaction of demon spirits in these sinful acts and the effects it has on the characters in the spiritual plane and how this is manifested in a physical sense, causing ill health, and how sin enslaves them to this lifestyle.
In this spiritual side of Elijah's life events, and those of his family, we are introduced to Sophia, his guardian angel and how through his prayer to God, she protects him from the clutches of the demons, (called Shadows). We are introduced to the boundaries that these angels operate under; not to cause physical or mental harm to their charge and not to interfere with their free will. They can influence their thought process or manipulate their environment for their good in protecting them but that is all. They also can only act with permission from their Higher Authority. To go outside these boundaries is to suffer a penalty.
This is one very engaging half of the book. It really does draw you in. You feel as if you are there with Elijah and Castiel as they observe and comment on the events in Elijah's life, you also sympathise with him during the negative elements and react against the injustice he suffered. You rejoice with him when he accomplished something good and when his life started to improve.
Reading the author Bio on Amazon and the author's blog/web page, you can see that this half of the book must be based on his own life, for he describes his childhood as difficult and upon talking to the author via Facebook chat, he states that, "I write based on my ideas and experiences". He does this extremely well. He also states that his past experiences "....developed a fascination with the nature of the supernatural, spiritual and physical words and how they affect the lives around us". This does add a lot of credibility to the plot and structure of this novel. That is a great strength and an asset and he draws on this very well.
Once Castiel is finished with showing Elijah his significant life events, he rewards Elijah with the answer to his question that Castiel has alluded to, that Elijah has to make a decision regarding his future. This is pivotal for the remainder of the plot. A huge twist occurs and one that is not expected or predicted by the reader.
The author states that this second half is, "....more artistic license, or the way I've come to know things." I will not try to spoil it by expounding on what the author means here by way of the plot, but it did cause me to question the author about this. I wanted to see what led him to take such artistic licence in this second half. I wanted to see what his sense of theology was and whether it was not based on the bible or some other New Age or non biblical source and to see if it aligned with what I had read of this author. I was pleased with his response. I have quoted some of his reply without adding spoilers.
One specific question I had concerning something I had not considered or entertained that Goodwin structured in this second half. My first thought was that this was a real stretch of theology and I was concerned that it would not honour God and the Bible but was reassured when he wrote,
"Hi Peter, there are fictional elements to my story. There is no way to know for sure the answers to your questions.....I come back to the statement in the bible, "Nothing is impossible for God."
I agree with this and I guess it comes down to the age old dilemma that there are things that we don't know about God and life and which the Bible does not cover or instruct on. I am reminded of the verse that says, "My ways are not your ways, My thoughts are not your thoughts,.." (Isaiah 55: 8).
He continued by saying further in his response to my Facebook chat:
"I don't write anything I don't believe is possible though. So to me, everything I wrote, is possible. Is it that way? My guess is things are a lot more grand in "God's World" than we can possibly imagine. Hope this makes sense."
I was reassured by all this. I can see that Goodwin is a man of character and integrity and has a heart that does not want to dishonour God in his writing. The account of the conversion of Elijah to Christ was very touching and meaningful and again, I believe it is based on the author's conversion experience. More credibility to this author here. Also, this is backed up by reading of the author's baptism account in his blog. That is a great witness.
The second half of the novel is one of action and adventure. More spiritual warfare and supernatural events. This almost reads like a computer game, and this is interesting as the author mentioned that he would like to create Elijah in a computer game, seeing the author is a software developer and has created an Elijah and the Last Judgement app for the Windows mobile phone. (Hey, Steve, what about us iPhone and Android diehards? LOL). This is a faster pace than the first half but no less of the "I cannot put this down" characteristic, which seems to be trademark of his writing. Don't change that ever, Steve!! This action and adventure half also has another subplot running through it where loose ends are tied up and tied up very nicely, leading to a sweet and solid ending that leaves you with the thought, "Wow, that was a great read and a great story!" I must confess, I had a book hangover after finishing this, I was still in the world of Elijah and found it hard to get back into holiday mode where I am at the moment!!
I can see the degree and positive effects of the influences of Tolkien and Lewis that have developed Goodwin's writing , creativity and imagination. It is very encouraging. I applaud this author for remaining respectful to the Bible and including biblical values in his novels. Highly recommended."

This is one cannot put down story
"This is a very unique take on spiritual warfare, and life after death. You can see the influences of the author's interest in Tolkien and Lewis. The author has used poetic licence in some aspects which adds to the uniqueness of this novel. This is one cannot put down story. The first half is very different to the second and the author packs alot into the plot. He has obviously researched this well. Very absorbing. There is very strong biblical values throughout. A very enjoyable read."

Juliana's Song - Ticket to Heaven
If only I could touch you again
Without brining back the pain
I thought this would never happen
At least not to us
I’ll get a ticket to heaven
To be with you
Your loving heart stopped beating
Your hard working hands put to rest
Your future looked so promising
But now all this is missing
I’ll get a ticket to heaven
To be with you
If I knew it would be the last time
That I see you walk out the door
I would give you a hug and kiss
And call you back for one more
Maybe I’ll get, a ticket to heaven
Maybe, Maybe, Maybe
I’ll get a ticket to heaven
To be with you
I thought you would always be my guide
I’ll probably just continue to cry
Maybe I’ll get, a ticket to heaven
Maybe, Maybe, Maybe
I’ll get a ticket to heaven
To be with you

Horses
Steve worked this photo to help create the ambience and setting for a scene he is writing in the upcoming 3rd Elijah Hael novel, Sophia – An Elijah Hael Prequel. Out while mountain bike riding, or running, Steve stops and spends time observing horses to help capture their natural love, kindness and expressions in words. Stunning animals.

Scene images
An image for a scene in the next Elijah Hael Novel, working title "Sophia". Steve often creates images, from photos, or sketches, to mentally depict how a scene will unfold. Over the next couple of months, we will be sharing some with you guys to give you a sneak look into the world of Elijah Hael, the new novel especially, through images. We might even dig up some images for the previous novels. Some of which, were posted here a while back. Having read the novels, if you venture back through the photos on this blog you might see how some reflect the context of characters and scenes from the novels. And if you really want a visual / audio delight check out the Elijah Hael - The Last Judgement Windows Phone app which contains the complete audible version of the novel, five songs (two with vocals) and images representing each chapter!

Swings for the fences
“After reading Elijah Hael and the Last Judgment, I was curious to see if Mr. Goodwin would be able to top himself in a follow up. No such worries! Elijah Hael andThe Genetic Code steps up to the plate and swings for the fences! The story takes off within the first two pages and rockets through to the end with very few lulls in the story to leave a reader bored. Mr. Goodwin has embraced quite a bit more humor with his writing in this story; some subtle, some not so subtle, but all tastefully done! (My Favorite being Cain and his company, N.O.D. - Cheeky!) His writing, as well as his characters, have grown up some in this offering as well. Throughout, he weaves a compelling tale of the biblical good vs. evil in a modern, high tech, setting that extends from the human realm into the spiritual realm and back! Once again, I find myself waiting in anticipation of a new novel from this author. Get the first book, if you haven't already, and then delve into this one as soon as you can!” - C.M. If I Could See (What The Angels See)
If I could see what the angels see
Behind the walls, beneath the sea
Under the avalanche, through the trees
Gone would be the mystery
If I could see
If I could hear what the angels hear
The thunderous sound of a crashing tear
Holy, holy in my ear
I'd never doubt that God is near
If I could hear
I'd see that love will conquer hate
There's always hope, it's not too late
I'd find the truth is easy to believe
If I could see
If I could know what angels know
That death's goodbye is love's hello
And spirits come and spirits go
I feel them but they never show
If I could know
If I could stand where angels stand
Watch this world while God commands
And see how love designed this plan
Reminders on His feet and hands
If I could stand
I'd see that love will conquer hate
There's always hope, it's not too late
I'd find the truth is easy to believe
If I could see
If I could hear
If I could know
There's nothing to fear
If I could stand
If I could see
Maybe that's finally eternity
If I could see what the angels see
Behind these walls to you and me
And let the truth set me free
I'd live this life differently
If I could, if I could see
I'd see that love will conquer hate
There's always hope, it's not too late
I'd find the truth is easy to believe
Like sunlight shining on my face
I'd feel the presence of Your grace
I'd find the truth and finally be set free
If I could see
If I could see
If I could see
One day I'll see

Hoping he is with his mates now
From the authors desk,
"Hi Steve, just wanted to thank you for my copy of The
Genetic Code. Your first book was timely and comforting due to Jeff’s first
born son, Neil, being really ill and losing his battle for life at 36 years of
age. A lovely young man. He was in the British army. His tank got bombed in
Afghanistan, lost all his mates, he was the sole survivor, and never got over
it. Died four years later on the anniversary. Hoping he is with his mates now.
So to be honest Elijah Hael was a real comfort. Please keep writing......"
- Donna
The above is an extract from a message I received from a
friend who after asking gave permission to share publically. I never knew about their loss. I'm moved
Elijah Hael has provided them some comfort during their grief. On another note,
to the soldiers who fight for our freedoms, we love you, and appreciate what
you do. And Neil, God bless you for the sacrifice you made. I, for one of many,
salute you.

Thought provoking in places
"Elijah Hael - The Genetic code is an excellent read, better than the first. Can be read on its own or followed from 1st one. The characters are well written and you feel for them, which is a sign of a good book in my eyes. Thought provoking in places. All in all, recommended whole heartedly"

"If you liked the first Elijah Hael novel you will love The Genetic Code. Who would've thought that angels would need James Bond type gadgets. Steve's style is developing so well and I can only hope he will be writing much more in the future. A highly recommended read."

The Editors Impression
Steve received back the editors impressions of his second Elijah Hael Novel after he finished editing the manuscript, The Genetic Code. Here is what the editor said.
"It is a wonderful book. As much as I enjoyed The Last Judgement, I must say that I found TGC to be much richer in terms of characterization, plot execution, and general novel craft. Your readers will not experience any sophomore letdown, i.e., the common complaint that second books disappoint. In fact, I'm quite sure that they will be as delighted as I was to find it even better than its predecessor. I laughed at times, kept turning the pages, and stopped editing momentarily and read the bittersweet end with a tear in my eye. Congratulations, my friend, on a job very very well done." - Scott

10 out of 10 stars, review by Christian book marketing
10 out of 10 stars, review by CBM Christian Book Marketing
Elijah Hael, The Last Judgement by Christian author Steve Goodwin is a fast-paced, adventurous novel. Elijah Hael, the main character, was a family man who like many others, felt beat down by life. Becoming comfortably numb, he accepts his position in life, but senses a lack of purpose. Neither can he escape restless nights and the feeling of emptiness. The plot thickens as readers join Elijah as he endures a bitter interrogation. Will Elijah remain innocent, or is he guilty? Find out whom the curious stranger is with the envelope and if Elijah will be set free and at what cost. This amazing eye-opener of a novel reads like a thriller, but focuses the reader on unbelievable twists that will keep the reader on the edge of their seat.
This novel weaves the message of salvation by unwittingly addressing the issues many have with questions of faith, forgiveness, love and relationships with mention of the invisible realm around us. Discover why, “I was a good person,” is an excuse that many will use at the Last Judgment. Challenging and provocative, this book offers the readers to come up higher in a most amazing way. There is a deeper message interwoven into the story and the novel is smooth, well written and engaging. A highly recommended read for those who desire a plot that has true to life meaning and application involving a high level of integrity.

Concrete Angel
A very moving song. Brilliant video clip.
Concrete Angel by Martina McBride. Be sure to have the tissues on hand if you watch / listen to it.
She walks to school with the lunch she packed
Nobody knows what she's holdin' back
Wearin' the same dress she wore yesterday
She hides the bruises with linen and lace
The teacher wonders but she doesn't ask
It's hard to see the pain behind the mask
Bearing the burden of a secret storm
Sometimes she wishes she was never born
Through the wind and the rain
She stands hard as a stone
In a world that she can't rise above
But her dreams give her wings
And she flies to a place where she's loved
Concrete angel
Somebody cries in the middle of the night
The neighbors hear, but they turn out the lights
A fragile soul caught in the hands of fate
When morning comes it'll be too late
[Repeat Chorus]
A statue stands in a shaded place
An angel girl with an upturned face
A name is written on a polished rock
A broken heart that the world forgot
[Repeat Chorus]

'Touched by an angel' meets 'The Matrix'
"A thought-provoking story of love, life and death with the afterlife and spiritual warfare stylised like a sci-fi / action movie.
The narrative style and subtle humour keep this novel an easy read. Even though some emotionally 'heavy' concepts form part of the story (death, depression, alcoholism, abuse, suicide) the reader is not dragged down, and the overall feel reflects a positive outlook. The characters are relatable, and mostly believable within the context of the realms they inhabit.
Overall, a great read and imaginative concept, I enjoyed this book a lot and am looking forward to the next instalment."

Passed away
Comment posted on the Elijah Hael & The Last Judgement Facebook page.
“My brother Elijah passed away a little over 5 years ago. I
look forward to seeing what he's been up too. Your book, the named, the
storyline and Christian based story made me smile. Which is a good thing. None
of my family have smiled about Elijah's passing so far. God bless." –
Amberwren
It’s difficult to explain how the comment moved me. All things considered, I don’t think there could be a greater comment than to know the novel helped someone, dealing with the sting of death, to smile. It is why I write.

Angel by your side
I can't say, that everything' ok,
Cause I can see the tears your crying
And I can't promise to take the pain away.
But you can know I won't stop trying.
I'll be an angel by your side,
I will get you through the night.
I'll be the strength you can provide on your own.
Cause when your down and out of time,
and you think you've lost the fight.
Let me be the angel, the angel by your side.
I know it feels like your running out of faith,
Cause its so hard to keep believing, oh.
But if I can bring, a smile back to your face.
for a moment, you'll forget all about it, oh.
I'll be an angel by your side,
I will get you through the night.
I'll be the strength you can provide on your own.
Cause when your down and out of time,
and you think you've lost the fight.
Let me be the angel, the angel by your side.
Cause this won't be the last time.
you'll need a little hope.
But I wanna be the first to let you know.
I'll be an angel by your side,
I will get you through the night.
I'll be the strength you can provide on your own.
Cause when your down and out of time,
and you think you've lost the fight.
Let me be the angel, the angel by your side.
Let me be the angel, the angel by your side, ooohh.
The angel by your side.

Iris
One of the scenes in Elijah Hael & The Genetic Code (Coming soon) partly involves Elijah thinking about Juliana, who people will know from Elijah Hael & The Last Judgement. In the scene, without giving too much away, a verse from the song Iris is worked into the action.
“And I'd give up forever to touch you,
Cause I know that you feel me somehow.
You're the closest to heaven that I'll ever be,
And I don't want to go home right now.”

New Ideas are rare
A review for Elijah Hael & The Last Judgement posted over on Amazon U.K.
Having seen this book on facebook I was intrigued by the idea so bought it to see if t was as good as the 'blurb' intimated it would be. I was not disappointed. The story is a very rare original idea. Not just a re-write of someone elses idea as is usually the case nowadays with most books.
The story is well researched, I found myself googling character names, words and places and found that they fitted well with the plot, not just a random name without any historical. mythical or religious significance.
All-in-all, this is a great story, imaginative and thought provoking. I for one will keep my eye out for the sequel.

Book Review
Review from Amazon.co.uk on Elijah Hael & The Last Judgement
I downloaded this through Kindle because it looked vaguely interesting and it was on special offer, and I really wasn't disappointed. Elijah's story begins with his interrogation, Elijah defending himself against accusations made by the `bad cop' style character of Stolas until being interrupted by the friendly and easy going Castiel, and there began their walk together through Elijah's life, as seen through his eyes as an onlooker, in a style reminiscent of Dickens' Christmas Carol, but just as I felt I could second guess the next move the plot twisted. Elijah's character gaining in depth through the story, his back story was particularly heart-wrenching and I particularly liked the revealing of Castiel's identity. I am an avid reader if a book gets its hooks in me, and this was certainly the case with this one, I finished it in just a few days, and was almost sad to say farewell to the characters as I was beginning to get to know them. I believe there are plans for further in the series and I look forward to reading the next installment.

Review
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book, it was an easy read and had a great storyline from the beginning. I am just a few pages from finishing it and am disappointed there is not another book out yet.
The concept of the book was interesting to me, as it parallels my beliefs about the "shadows". The book could be interpreted as a fantasy story, or faith based, and would appeal to a wide variety of readers and age groups. I originally picked up this book for free, but after reading it I would definitely pay $2.99 for it, as I will probably read it over and over again. Interpreting it as a faith based book, I liked the many little messages it delivered in such a simple, fun way. Please write another one soon!

Prayer To A Guardian Angel
Dear Angel, in His goodness
God gave you to me to guide, protect, and enlighten me,
and to bring me back to the right way when I go astray.
Encourage me when I am disheartened,
and instruct me when I err in judgment.
Help me to become more Christlike,
and so some day to be accepted
into the company of Angels and Saints in heaven.
Amen.
God gave you to me to guide, protect, and enlighten me,
and to bring me back to the right way when I go astray.
Encourage me when I am disheartened,
and instruct me when I err in judgment.
Help me to become more Christlike,
and so some day to be accepted
into the company of Angels and Saints in heaven.
Amen.
